Since the onset of the covid-19 pandemic, many meetups, conferences, and talks have shifted online. While the rise of online communications thrived, I felt somewhat lost in locating communities with which I had commonalities. Once I started locating groups or threads, people shared many tools and resources that were invaluable. They were also helpful with informational interviews, career opportunities, outreach, and networking.

As a Mexican-American woman this is a short-list of online communities I am grateful to have joined:

  • Techqueria — “Techqueria is a nonprofit that serves the largest global community of Latinx professionals in the tech industry.”
  • Latinasintech — “Latinas in Tech is a non-profit organization with the mission to connect, support and empower Latina women working in tech.”
  • Tribaja — “Tribaja connects undersupported tech talent to free upskilling programs and inclusive workplaces.”
  • Diversify Tech — “ A collection of resources for underrepresented people in tech.”
  • Pyladies — “A group of women developers worldwide who love the Python programming language.”
  • Remote Woman — “A community of strong, professional women.”

Other resources to check out:

  • DisAbility in AI — “{Dis}Ability in AI is a newly formed group that aims at supporting and advocating for disabled people.”
  • Black in Data — “Amplifying Black folx in #informatics, #datascience, & #coding around the world.”
  • Out in Tech — “Out in Tech unites the LGBTQ+ tech community.”
  • LatinX in AI — “LatinX in AI (LXAI) bridges communities, academics, industry, and politicians working to further AI innovation and resources for LatinX individuals globally.”
  • Black in AI — “Black in AI increases the presence and inclusion of Black people in the field of AI by creating space for sharing ideas, fostering collaborations, mentorship, and advocacy.”
  • Queer in AI — “Queer in AI’s mission is to raise awareness of queer issues in AI/ML, foster a community of queer researchers and celebrate the work of queer scientists.”

Please share which communities you have joined! Please note, there are ally channels in some of these groups and offer a great way to further connect and continue community building.
