Data Analytics: Building an Online Community

Since the onset of the covid-19 pandemic, many meetups, conferences, and talks have shifted online. While the rise of online communications thrived, I felt somewhat lost in locating communities with which I had commonalities. Once I started locating groups or threads, people shared many tools and resources that were invaluable. They were also helpful with informational interviews, career opportunities, outreach, and networking.

As a Mexican-American woman this is a short-list of online communities I am grateful to have joined:

  • Techqueria — “Techqueria is a nonprofit that serves the largest global community of Latinx professionals in the tech industry.”
  • Latinasintech — “Latinas in Tech is a non-profit organization with the mission to connect, support and empower Latina women working in tech.”
  • Tribaja — “Tribaja connects undersupported tech talent to free upskilling programs and inclusive workplaces.”
  • Diversify Tech — “ A collection of resources for underrepresented people in tech.”
  • Pyladies — “A group of women developers worldwide who love the Python programming language.”
  • Remote Woman — “A community of strong, professional women.”

  • Queer in AI — “Queer in AI’s mission is to raise awareness of queer issues in AI/ML, foster a community of queer researchers and celebrate the work of queer scientists.”
